Kettle Club FAQ
What is the Kettle Club?
The Kettle Club is our exclusive monthly meat share program. Kettle Club Members will receive a monthly share of our antibiotic and hormone free, 100% grass fed beef, and pastured pork available for pick up at local drop sites in Milwaukee, Kenosha and Madison or delivered right to your door.
The Kettle Club gives you access to many seasonal and specialty gourmet cuts that are not typically featured on our website. We also include a monthly newsletter and updates, including recipes and free gifts available only to Kettle Club members.
Is the Kettle Club a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and describes a model where the consumer pays an individual farmer in advance for a share of that season's harvest. This term is increasingly abused, and so we prefer to call our program the Kettle Club.
Kettle Club subscribers receive all of the benefits of a CSA, including a regular monthly allotment of a seasonal variety of locally raised beef, pork and chicken sourced from independent family farms that we know and trust.
Unlike a CSA, the Kettle Club offers a few advantages that we think better reflect our customers' needs and lifestyles. For one thing, we charge our subscribers each month, rather than requiring you to make one large payment months in advance. We also allow you to suspend or cancel your subscription at any time. Finally, by aggregating animals from a number of partner farms, we are able to offer the most popular items year-round.
Can I choose which meats and cuts are in my Kettle Club subscription?
The content of each month's Kettle Club subscription is hand-picked by our butcher, Joe, and is determined by the season and the availability of particular cuts. We aim to provide a balanced selection of beef and pork each month, including popular items like ground beef and Berkshire chops, as well as a few exotic or gourmet options. While we cannot customize our boxes on an individual basis, we welcome requests and will do our best to satisfy them in future deliveries.
My family does not eat pork. Is an all-beef share available?
All-beef and all-pork shares are available. Click here to view your options, and if you don't see what you are looking for, please contact us.
Where do you deliver?
For residents of Wisconsin, we offer a number of pickup locations throughout the year. When you subscribe, we will give you a call to confirm your details and to suggest the most convenient location.
We can also deliver your order straight to your home or workplace for an additional $10.00 fee. Many of our customers prefer this option for the convenience and time savings.
Is the meat in my Kettle Club subscription frozen? What's the best way to thaw it?
The items in your Kettle Club subscription are individually packaged, vacuum-sealed, and flash frozen to preserve our straight-from-the-farm freshness and flavor.
To thaw a package, we recommend that you leave it in it's packaging and place it on a plate in your refrigerator. Smaller pieces of meat, like steaks and chops, will thaw out overnight. Larger pieces, including most roasts, may take 1-2 days.
If you are in a hurry, submerging the still-sealed package in cold water should do the trick.
To preserve tenderness and the full flavor of our meat, you should never, ever thaw it in the microwave.
How long will my meat last in the freezer?
In our experience, vacuum-sealed beef and pork will remain fresh and tasty for a 12-18 months. But we hope you will get hungry sooner than that!
Are the products in the Kettle Club grass fed?
All Kettle Range beef is pasture raised and fed an appropriate, all-vegetarian diet of grasses and forages that are recommended for raising healthy and happy animals in the Midwest. Our hogs, on the other hand, are omnivores and require grain feeding as part of a well-balanced diet. And of course, all of our meat is antibiotic free and hormone free.
Can I visit the farm where your meat is raised?
We are proud of what we do and we love to show our subscribers around! We organize a number of tours of our partner farms each summer for our subscribers. Please stay tuned to our website or subscribe to our monthly newsletter to find out when we are offering the next one.
How and when will I be charged for my monthly subscription?
We accept most major credit cards on our website. We will bill your credit card for the first month as soon as you subscribe. For subsequent months, we will maintain your credit card on file and will bill you 1-week prior to the announced shipment date. Don't worry… we'll send you a reminder email prior to making the charge.
What if I can't pick up my next Kettle Club delivery?
We aim to be as flexible as possible. If you need to miss a delivery for any reason, we are happy to reschedule it, send it somewhere else, or simply suspend it. All we require is notification at least 1-week prior to the scheduled delivery date. To manage or make changes to your subscription, please give us a call at 800-608-2334.
What do I do with items that I am unfamiliar with or don't like?
When we include less familiar items in our monthly deliveries, we try to provide cooking instructions and a tasty recipe or two. Our subscribers are often surprised to discover new cuts that they have never considered before, and that they end up loving. That said, if you receive an item that is simply not for you, we are unable to make substitutions, but it might make a good gift for a friend!
Can I order smaller or larger quantities, say for a single person or a large family?
We currently offer five share options, from 5lb. Individual Shares to 16b. large family shares. Click here to view all the options. And of course, if you would like to supplement your share with something extra, give us a call at 800-608-2334... we wouldn't want you to go hungry!
